How do our analyses relate?
For this project, Bethanie, Margaux and Doris look into the cognitive effects of Multilingualism. Their analyses are based on the different texts they use. Specifically, Bethanie discusses the benefits of multilingualism beyond cognition, how it helps preserve culture & greater social equality, and therefore we should promote bilingual education. Margaux analyzes the effects of multi-linguals shuttling between languages, and shows how the languages one may know affect each other. Furthermore, Doris looks into the academic and social effects of multilingualism, its benefits and obstacles as well as how English native speakers face obstacles in academic and social settings.
The three essays relate to each other because they all show that being bilingual offers a mental flexibility to shuttle between languages. In addition, they also show that multilingualism exposes people to various cultures.
