Doris Cikopana is freshman at Emory University studying Biology and Spanish. She is originally from Albania, but she moved to Chicago, IL when she was 13. While her first language is Albanian, she also learn Spanish, Italian, and English in school, and became fluent in English when she moved to the United States. In my interview with her, Doris suggests that being multilingual has helped her in many ways, especially in school, highlighting the academic benefits. She cites that the only challenge she has experienced was sometimes mixing up the languages, as well as learning them. She also offers some insight into the cultural changes she experienced with learning more languages, which she cites has helped her connect with more people.
